City Ballet of Iowa's ninth season comes to a close with performance of classical and contemporary works on Monday May 22.
The concert opens with variations from Raymonda, a musically and artistically rich ballet. The work first performed by CBI in 2008 has been set by Sarah Barragán.
In addition the program features contemporary works by Eloy Barragán and Crystal Winston. Both of these works debuted at the Youth America Grand Prix in Indianapolis this year, and Winston's solo, performed by Ally Rollins, was selected as a top 12 performance at the competition.
Sleeping Beauty closes the program as young dancers have learned about the regality of the court and fairies, in addition to the divertissements and Garland Dance. Lyle Juracek will accompany the performance on the piano.
CBI, a training ground for young dancers, hopes audiences new and familiar support this performance and its emerging artists. Come and realize what happens when a young person follows their dreams into the arts, and see them become vibrant leaders in the future.
