I Lift My Lamp
Saturday, November 16, 2019
Featuring Coppers & Brass and the Champagne Academy of Irish Dance, this concert illuminates the songs and stories of Irish immigration in music and dance.
With more than a century of traditional Irish music experience between them, Coppers & Brass upholds and expands the traditional folk music scene in their corner of the heartland. Frank Claudy, Joe Dutcher, Tara McGovern, and Keith Reins, together with the Champagne Academy of Irish Dance and McGovern Music, present a journey of jigs, reels, and songs from the Emerald Shore to Iowa’s amber waves of corn.
This is the first of several events presented by Coralville Center for the Performing Arts inspired by “I lift my lamp beside the golden door” from the sonnet inscribed on the pedestal of The Statue of Liberty - “The New Colossus” by American poet Emma Lazarus. The aim of the series is to highlight the immigration stories that enrich our nation and to celebrate our immigrant friends and neighbors.
